Sunset Cylinder Exchange Celebrates Grand Opening of Sebring, Ohio, Location

Sebring, OH – Sunset Cylinder Exchange officially opened its newest location in Sebring with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday, June 9, 2025. The new outpost, located at 249 E. Georgia Avenue, expands the company’s footprint in Northeast Ohio and marks the first business to open on a newly remediated 17-acre site that was formerly home to the Royal China Company.

This strategic location will serve as a satellite distribution and exchange point for 20-pound propane cylinders, enhancing convenience and service access for residential and commercial customers in the area.

“We’re proud to bring Sunset Cylinder Exchange to Sebring,” said Mike Whitney , president of Sunset Cylinder Exchange. “This site gives us a great opportunity to improve delivery efficiencies in the region and be part of a community that’s clearly looking toward future growth. The site’s transformation from an abandoned industrial property to a hub for new development results from significant remediation efforts led by local stakeholders and landowners Mike and Dawn Conny , who envision the property becoming a catalyst for broader economic revitalization in Sebring.

“Seeing the first ribbon cut on this property is just the beginning,” said Mike Conny. “Our goal is to attract forward-thinking businesses like Sunset Cylinder Exchange, who recognize the potential in Sebring. We’ve got the space, infrastructure, and location to support real economic momentum here. I’m especially grateful to now-U.S. Senator Jon Husted, who—during his time as Lieutenant Governor—helped guide us through the grant application process and secure $1.8 million in funding to clean up this brownfield site. City officials, local partners, and residents joined the grand opening celebration, recognizing the event as a symbol of positive change and new opportunity for the village.

Grilling Safety Tips

The warmth of Spring is rolling in, and the outdoors and sunshine are calling people to go outside. It’s that time again; time for some outdoor grilling. About 7 out of every 10 US adults own a grill of some variety. However, alongside this popularity, there have been instances where mistakes have been made which have led to negative and unsafe outcomes. We’re here to tell you how to avoid those mistakes and minimize your risk when using a grill or smoker.

Before we get into starting the grill, the first important aspect to consider is where the grill is placed. The main thing to look for is wood and other flammable materials that might be close enough to the grill to either heat up from its use or come into contact with large flames should there be a problem with gas concentration. There’s nothing wrong with putting a grill on a deck. However, you’ll want to keep the placement away from wooden railings, walls, and trees to negate the potential for a dangerous situation to get worse. Of course, heat and fire tend to rise, so make sure there is nothing above the grill either which is at risk of combusting or catching fire. Finally, make sure that your grill is on a stable surface and won’t tip over. The last thing we want is to knock over a grill.

Once you have placed your grill in a safe spot, the next aspect to consider is the propane tank. Storing a propane tank is usually relatively low risk, but you should try to keep a propane tank as full as possible to maintain pressure and avoid water from leaking in and causing internal rusting. Hooking up a propane tank is relatively simple as well. First, place the propane tank around the base of your grill in a secure spot to where it can’t be easily bumped or knocked over. Next, you’ll take the gas hose, and twist the hose onto the propane cylinder nozzle located at the top of your standard tank. Make sure the hose is connected tightly, and you should be ready for the next step.

The next important thing to check is the general condition of the grill. If this is your first time breaking the grill out for the season, it is advised to check under the lid for insects and animal structures like bird nests that may have popped up since the grill’s last use. Once you observe and clear potential hazards, you’ll next want to look at the lower section of the grill to the gas hose. Check for indents and breaks in the hose to prevent leaks. A great way to ensure that all leaks are accounted for is to actually coat the gas line and its two connecting points with a soapy or bubbly mixture. Once the line is covered, turn on the gas and look for bubbles to form. Should you find leaks from the connection points, turn off the gas and tighten up the connections. A broken hose will need to be repaired or replaced. You shouldn’t use your grill until it passes the leak test.

After you ensure that your grill is functioning as intended, we can go into safely turning on the grill. The first step is to open the lid so that any excess propane can escape and new propane won’t build up before the grill is ignited. Once the lid is open, you can go ahead and open up the propane tank release valve and turn the knobs of the grill burner to an on state. Now, you can press the ignition button if you have one or light the grill with a flame if you don’t. Doing so will start the grill, and you’ll be ready to go. Shutting off the grill is just as easy and largely involves the opposite process of turning off the burner, turning off the gas, and closing the lid. .

Grilling can be an excellent way to make the best of being outdoors and can undoubtedly cook some great tasting foods, but even seasoned grillers can make mistakes. The important thing to remember is to just be smart and follow the safety recommendations. This will get you the best experience and lifespan out of your grill while protecting people and property in the process.

Propane is a useful fuel for many purposes, and its use in camping is no exception. Propane’s core strengths lend themselves very well to the outdoors and also allow for greater space efficiency and mobility than you’d see from similar sources of fuel. When it comes to camping, propane is most often used for cooking, but it can also be used for powering generators and other electronic devices like space heaters. We’ll cover how to safely travel with propane and how to best use it to power your camping adventures.

Transporting propane cylinders can be a bit risky if the cylinder is mishandled, but there are steps to mitigate this risk. First off, it’s important to make sure your tank is completely closed and in good shape before storing it in a vehicle. This applies even if the tank is empty. Doing so ensures that no propane gas will leak out. It’s often best to check the status of your tank routinely by taking bubbles or soap and coating the nozzle and outside surface of the tank with the substance. If you see bubbles continuously forming from a spot on the tank, you can pinpoint that there is leaking gas coming out and should usually consult a specialist or buy a new tank if this occurs.

Secondly, you’ll want to make sure that the propane tank is secure and upright when you store it. For instance, you can place one on the ground between a front and back seat or strap it into a truck bed. The goal is to reduce the amount of movement the tank undergoes and keep it upright in order to make sure the internal pressure of the tank stays consistent. This also applies to handling a propane tank. It’s best to be gentle with it and not to throw it around or roll it.

Finally, you’ll want to keep another factor in mind when working with propane tanks: temperature. Propane is a flammable gas that can combust under heat and pressure. For this reason, you’ll want to travel with your tank in a well-ventilated area such as the interior of a car with the window cracked. When not on the road, propane should be kept out of direct sunlight. Tanks also shouldn’t be stored inside of a vehicle that doesn’t have temperature control. The best option is usually to store your tanks outside in a shady area such as under a table or tree. This will help to mitigate rising temperatures in the tank and thus reduce risk.

Now that we know how to travel with propane, we can focus on its utilization in the outdoors, and that most often involves camping stoves. Most stoves made for camping work well with 16 oz canisters and a standard adapter, but, if you plan ahead, some camping stoves can be adapted to fit with standard 20 lb cylinders. This is important because small cylinders can run out over extended periods of time, and it’s best to have as much gas on hand and in one tank so that you don’t have to switch canisters or worry as much about losing efficiency to low tank pressure. Obviously a 20 lb tank may not be suitable for longer hikes, but it’s worth considering if your campsite is close enough to get the tank there.

Once you have your stove picked out and set up at your camping area, it’s time to hook up the gas and turn it on. The first step to this is to make sure the stove is cranked down. This insures that gas won’t flow from the tank when the hose is attached. Next, you’ll use your hose to hook the propane tank into the camping stove. Once the two ends are securely fastened, you can open up the tank and turn up the gas. Finally, light the gas on fire with a long-tipped lighter, and you have yourself a working source of fire, ready to cook some tasty food for you and your friends. When you’re done, just do things in reverse by cutting the gas off from the stove and closing the valve on the tank.

And there you have it, a personal source of fuel and warmth that can go wherever you do. As long as you’re smart about handling your propane, you should be able to safely harness it in the great outdoors as you bring energy wherever you go. Many other propane products use similar steps to run off of the fuel, but it’s always best to do research on the best practices for each. Propane is a space efficient and ecologically superior fuel to many other options, and utilizing it effectively can greatly enhance the outdoor experience.
